Person dies on tracks at Guildford station in incident that caused hours of disruption

The person was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics

A person has died at Guildford train station in an incident which caused significant disruption for a number of hours on Sunday (September 20).

Officers received reports that there was a casualty on the tracks at Guildford station at around midday.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene while all rail lines coming in and out of Guildford were closed until the early evening.

According to British Transport Police, the death is not being treated as suspicious and an incident file will be prepared for the coroner.

There was significant disruption on all services through Guildford as a result of the death. Rail operators warned of one hour delays throughout the afternoon, and all lines reopened by around 6pm later that day (September 20).

A spokesperson for British Transport Police told Surrey Live on Monday (September 21): “We were called to Guildford station at around 12.05pm yesterday (September 20) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended, along with paramedics, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
