The beautiful cobbled streets, historic buildings and famous Guildhall clock make Guildford one of the most attractive high streets in the country. With a great selection of designer stores, including Jo Malone, LK Bennett and Jaeger, two big name department stores, Debenhams and House of Fraser and a host of well known high street shops such as Monsoon, M&S, and Gap, Guildford can cater for all shopping tastes. Shopping centres White Lion Walk and Tunsgate Square can also be found just off the high street, offering an even greater selection of perfect places for your fix of retail therapy! And for that well-earned break, the range of cafes, restaurants and bars will help you turn your shopping trip into a great day out.
From well-known stores, a modern shopping centre to a traditional market – North Street is as diverse as its shoppers. The Friary shopping centre offers shoppers three floors of shops under one roof and a range of snacks and meals from the top floor Food Court. There are plenty of big name stores to chose from, including Top Shop, HMV and Primark.
Along with other major high street names, North Street is home to a traditional street market every Friday and Saturday. Featuring over 30 stalls selling a variety of goods, including fresh meat, fish, fruit, veg and flowers, you’ll also find great gifts, accessories and a range of goods for the home.
Chapel Street is renowned as Guildford’s premier shopping and dining destination. Lined with up-market boutiques and a range of eateries this area of town keeps going long after the shops have closed.
With over 40 stylish stores, The Friary Guildford is THE place to get your fashion fix every season! The Friary is Guildford’s largest undercover shopping area, with over fifty stores spread out across three floors. The shopping centre has a direct covered link to the adjacent Bedford Road multi-storey car park, enabling visitors to enter the centre on the second floor. In addition to the brightly lit and modern shops, the centre has invested in facilities to make shopping easier and less stressful for parents and children. There are ‘kiddy cars’ available, free of charge, from the Concierge, a soft play area for younger children, and the baby changing facilities include private cubicles, a microwave and bottle warmers.
Built in 1972, and located just off the High Street, and not far from the famous clock, the Tunsgate Square Shopping Centre is an amalgamation of office spaces and 26 shops, including a cafe with seating in a delightful glass-covered courtyard. The emphasis is on fashion, modern household accessories and crafts, with Barbour, County Kitchens, Heals and Clarkes represented among the current tenants.
