Wendy’s looks set to open its first Surrey restaurant

An iconic American fast food chain looks set to open its doors in Surrey with Wendy’s locking its sights on Guildford. The Baconater, Frosty and Dave’s Triple could be coming to the town centre after plans were submitted to alter the former Mothercare store.

The proposals submitted to Guildford Borough Council for the North Street branch, include an illuminated Wendy’s logo and sign reading ‘Quality Burgers Since 1969′. Applicants JRK Restaurants Ltd, is currently aiding the rollout of Wendy’s restaurants in the UK, including its branches in Kingston and Reading.

“These works are considered modest but essential to our client’s occupation of and operation from the premises,” read a cover letter from planning consultant Firstplan.

“The choice of materials and finishes have been considered to ensure that these maintain the character of the frontage. Overall, the proposals represent a significant improvement and upgrade to the existing exterior of the unit, which currently appears tired and dated, whilst also facilitating the occupation of the premises by Wendy’s.”

While an opening date has not been revealed, jobs have been advertised for the new chain. A job advert on Harri lists an application for a full time restaurant general manager at Wendy’s in Guildford. This comes with a “competitive salary” but also requires applicants to have a minimum of four years’ experience and willingness to work 45-hour weeks.

The job listing reads: “We keep it real. It’s our personality. People want to have fun … where they dine, and where they work. We see to both. Our customers adore Wendy’s, and we adore them. At Wendy’s, we’re one big family. And we’re expanding into the United Kingdom. Bring your real self and let’s do this thing. And have some fun, too.”

The Kingston branch is currently the nearest for those living in Surrey after it opened in December last year. The restaurant and takeaway in Eden Street offers the chain signature burgers plus a range of item only available in the UK, including chicken breast fillet nuggets, the Veggie Stack and the Avocado Veggie Salad.

SurreyLive approached Wendy’s for comment, a spokesperson said they would provide further details at a later date.
