Queen Elizabeth II has visited Surrey many times during her record-breaking 70-year reign. These archive photos show one particular outing to Guildford as she visited the Women’s Royal Army Corps at Queen Elizabeth Park.
The Queen unveiled a dedicated plaque to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the various forms of the association in 1979 – the WRAC was later disbanded in 1992. This royal welcome captured the imagination of many locals with the level of patriotism evident from these snapshots.
