The 29 Surrey postcodes eligible for Cold Weather Payments this week

The government has announced the postcode areas in Surrey which will be eligible for Cold Weather Payments this week after temperatures dipped below freezing.

Payments are triggered during cold spells to help benefits claimants with the extra fuel and heating bills they face.

Temperatures in the region could dip to -5C on Friday night (February 12) in some areas, according to the Met Office.

Weather monitoring stations are used to determine if conditions are so cold that the extra payments are required. The Department for Work and Pensions has now revealed the areas which are eligible for this week.

To qualify, the local weather station must record sub-zero temperatures for seven days in a row.

This week, the subzero temperatures have been recorded by the South Farnborough and Charlwood weather stations.

It means that 29 Surrey postcodes in the vicinity of the weather stations will be eligible for Cold Weather Payments this week.

Areas in the north of the county mostly come under the Heathrow weather station, which has not yet recorded temperatures low enough to trigger the payments.

In order to claim a payment in these areas, you must be in receipt of one of these benefits

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Support for Mortgage Interest
