Surrey hospital trusts record more than 130 coronavirus deaths in a week

The number of coronavirus patients who have died at Surrey hospital trusts has risen by more than 130 over the past week, according to the latest NHS statistics.

A further 132 deaths were recorded in the NHS England figures released on Tuesday (February 16), showing an increase from 3,094 to 3,226 over the past week.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust saw the largest increase with 42 deaths recorded in the seven-day period, followed by Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust with 40.

The total number of confirmed cases in the county since the start of the pandemic now stands at 66,461, as of 4pm on Tuesday, according to Government data.

The NHS figures released each day list the number of patients who have died in hospitals in England and have tested positive for COVID-19, making it difficult to determine the exact number in Surrey.

This is because some NHS trusts, such as Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, operate sites both inside and outside of the county.

All deaths are recorded against the date of death, rather than the day the deaths were announced.
