Surrey Covid infection rate now lowest since October

The infection rate in Surrey as a whole is now 45.6 cases per 100,000 – the lowest it has been since October.

Rates are down in all 11 boroughs and all boroughs are below the national average.

Corby is the area with the highest coronavirus infection rate in the country, according to the latest data from Public Health England.

There were 156 confirmed cases in Corby for the week ending February 27, which means the infection rate in the area is 216. cases per 100,000 people.

The second highest infection rate is in North West Leicestershire, where there were 205.6 cases per 100,000 population in the same period.

In the week ending February 27 the infection rate went up in 16 (5%) of the local authority areas in England and stayed level in 2 areas.

Latest Surrey infection rates

In the remaining 297 areas the infection rate went down. That is equivalent to 94% of the 315 local authority districts in England.

The lowest infection rate in England is in West Devon. There were just 4 confirmed cases in West Devon for the week ending February 27, which was 1 fewer than the previous week.

The infection rate in West Devon is now 7.2 cases per 100,000 people.
