Surrey area is one of 16 in England to see coronavirus cases increase

Mole Valley in Surrey is one of only 16 areas in England where coronavirus rates have gone up, according to the latest seven-day figures.

The remaining 299 areas of the country have seen rates fall in the numbers released by Government for the week ending February 12.

There were 92 cases in Mole Valley for that week, which is four more than they posted in the previous week.

Week-on-week, the figures point to an increase of 5 per cent.

The table below shows the rate for Surrey as a whole and the number of cases in each area for week ending February 12 and the change on the previous week

Elsewhere in Surrey, just Spelthorne – with 163.3 – and Runnymede – with 146.5 – remain above the national average of 142.4.

The fastest fall in rates is in Reigate & Banstead, where cases nearly halved in a week.

Guildford, Woking, and Epsom & Ewell all saw falls of over 40 per cent.

Meanwhile, rates have gone down in 299 out of the 315 local authorities in England.

Middlesbrough is now the area with the highest infection rate of 318.5 cases per 100,000 population

Today (Tuesday, February 16) the Government said a further 799 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 118,195.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 137,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 10,625 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 4,058,468.

In addition, Government data up to February 15 shows that of the 16,122,272 jabs given in the UK so far, 15,576,107 were first doses – a rise of 275,956 on the previous day.

Some 546,165 were second doses, an increase of 6,535 on figures released the previous day.
