Reigate Pret set to open as chain takes over former Barclays site

The former Barclays in Reigate is set to be turned into a Pret A Manger as the chain continues its expansion into Surrey. Pictures taken from the former premises of the bank show branding belonging to the chain appearing on its exterior notifying customers it expects to open “soon”.

The building, located at 53 High Street, has been unused since Barclays decided to close down on January 7 this year. The company cited changing bank habits as the main reason for the closure with in-person customers dipping after the coronavirus pandemic with just 15 people using the branch exclusively for their banking.

Pret’s opening in Reigate continues its expansion into Surrey and comes a year after it opened on Cobham High Street last year. It is the first Pret to open in Reigate and follows branches already open in Epsom, Guildford and Woking.

SurreyLive has approached Pret for further details and an opening date. The branding also includes a recruitment drive to join the sandwich shop.
