With winter upon us, you may find yourself adding extra layers before turning up the heat in a bid to save money or perhaps you are literally paying to heat up the garden because of poor insulation.
Improving home energy efficiency is one of the simplest ways of saving energy and combating rising energy prices, as well as helping the environment.
You can apply for Green Jump Surrey funding which offers eligible households funding to receive home energy efficiency improvements.
In addition to the £6.2 million available from central government, Surrey County Council is contributing £750,000 to the ‘Green Jump Surrey’ project, so households could qualify* for up to £15,000.
The eco-friendly Green Jump Surrey initiative is being run by ThamesWey’s domestic energy efficiency project, Action Surrey on behalf of local authorities and provides funds for a range of home improvement works.
Eligible owner-occupied households can use the funding to install energy efficiency improvements including loft, solid wall, cavity wall and park home insulation, to keep their home warm.
Renewable heating systems such as air source heat pumps and solar hot water systems can also be funded in addition to insulation works, to further help save on energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.
Councillor Ayesha Azad, leader of Woking Borough Council, the lead local authority in the partnership, said: “The funding will make a real difference to people’s comfort, health and wealth.
“Everyone across Surrey has a responsibility to act on climate change and improving our home’s energy performance represents a major step towards reducing our collective carbon footprint.”
Jenny Pearson, a nurse and mum-of-two from Dorking, is one of the residents who have already benefited from the grant and said she was surprised by how quickly the work was done and the difference it made.
“My home never felt warm even when the heating was on and I always felt like I was wasting money. With a hot water system and new loft insulation, my home has never felt so comfortable. Now I can’t wait to get back home after finishing a shift.”
Richard Wakely, a retired caretaker from Guildford said: “Not only am I saving on bills, I’m also saving the environment. I got in touch because I knew my home just wasn’t up to scratch when it came to energy efficiency and I knew I was wasting money.
“Having the work done, and funded by Green Jump Surrey, has been a real comfort and getting onboard has been the biggest highlight of my year.”
