Female pedestrian dies after being hit by car on A3 near Guildford

A woman has died after being hit by a car on the A3 near Guildford.

The A3 has been closed in both directions near Guildford since the early hours of Tuesday (January 11) following an incident at around 2am.

In a statement at around 11am, Surrey Police confirmed that a woman, aged 24, had died at the scene after being hit by a car between the Send and Guildford junctions.

The carriageway remains closed while emergency services deal with the incident and undertake investigation work.

Officers have advised that the A3 will remain closed for at least another few hours.

A spokesperson said: “Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident remain ongoing and we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly anyone with any dashcam footage, to contact us straightaway quoting incident reference P22006930.”

A diversion route is currently in place in both directions around the A3 closure, but local roads are extremely congested and there are severe delays.
