Every Surrey area now has lower infection rate than England average

Woking has dropped below the national average infection rate as the number of cases fell by 42 per cent in the last week.

It means that all areas in Surrey now have a lower infection rate than in England as a whole.

Infection rates have fallen strongly in every part of the county in the latest figures from PHE.

In eight of the 11 boroughs the infection rate is now below 50 cases per 100,000 people.

Guildford has the lowest rate at 34.2 cases per 100,000.

The Government said a further 343 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 123,296.

Latest infection rates across Surrey

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 144,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 6,391 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,188,400.

The infection rate has gone up in 22 local authority areas in England in the last week. The rate has stayed level in 3 areas and it has gone down in the remaining 290 local authorities.
