The victim of an attack by a gang of seven near a train station is fighting for his life in hospital.
Police on patrol came across a 38-year-old man with head injuries on London Road close to West Croydon railway station at 12.10am on Sunday morning (February 27).
The officers gave first aid until London Ambulance Service paramedics arrived to take him to hospital.
At the time of writing, the victim remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition. The Metropolitan Police have informed his next of kin.
Investigators believe the man was assaulted by group of seven people, who left the scene towards Croydon’s Centrale Shopping Centre. The gang escaped the area before police arrived.
A Metropolitan Police appeal has called on the public to help officers track down the suspects by providing information.
The appeal said: “Officers are carrying out urgent enquiries to trace them. They have already spoken to several witnesses and are reviewing CCTV from the area.
“They would like to hear from anyone else who has information about the assault or who was nearby at the time.
“If you can help, please call 101 quoting CAD 85/27Feb. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
